Raytheon Engineers & Constructors Location: Inland Steel, East Chicago, IN Description:Two 450 feet long reinforced concrete below grade coke wharves and four 1000 feet long elevated railroad structure for a green field 1.33 million ton per year coke battery and 90 mega watt electric co-generation plant, a $350 million project. The main design/build contractors were Raytheon and Flour Daniel.
Client Company: Triumph Steel. TopLocation: 8687 S. 77th Ave., Bridgeview, ILProject: New Galvanizing Line Description:Structural analysis and design of number of highly stressed structures along the strip-metal galvanization line.
Sterling Engineering Location: General Mills Plant, West Chicago, IL Description:Complete structural engineering and design of a cereal packaging line including silo supports, particulate room design, and platforms.
Superior Engineering Corp. Location: No. 11 Pipe Still Description:Computer aided analysis and redesign of a 320 feet high steel structure housing four huge coker bins. Since the upgrade had to be performed during the operation of the Coker a significant restriction was imposed on the sequences of engineering and construction. Many procedural steps had to be written and many temporary bracing's had to be designed.
Superior Engineering Corp. Location: No. 12 Pipe Still, Amoco Refinery, Whiting , Indiana Description:A 75 feet high multi-level structure was designed to support huge condensers in each level. A large slenderness ratio made the tower vulnerable to wind load and overturning. A three-dimensional Staad-III model was created.
R. T. Patterson Company, Inc. Location: Steel Producing Div., No. 2 Caster, U.S. Steel Corp., Gary, Indiana Description:Architectural and Structural design of a new masonry block and steel laboratory building. Design involved two overhead cranes, snow drift load from surrounding structures, and equipment foundations.
Superior Engineering Corp. Location: General Mills Plant, West Chicago, IL Description:Structural steel analysis and design of a 110 feet high space truss and corresponding reinforced concrete mat foundation for a High voltage transmission tower subject to un-symmetric cable tension, ice, wind and high seismic loads in South America. A trial and error method was required to find the right dimensions for the tower base and right geometry for the tower body.
R. T. Patterson Company, Inc. Location: Vacant 80" Hot Strip Mill Building, U.S. Steel corp., Gary, Indiana Description:Modification of an old industrial building to accommodate a slab slitting facility. This included redesign of 96 feet and 48 feet span crane girders and back up trusses, crane columns, concrete piers, and spread footings.
Superior Engineering Corp. Location: Inland Steel, East Chicago, IN Description:Computer aided analysis and design of a steel structure and concrete mat foundation to support a vessel 136 feet tall. The slender structure and foundation had to be optimized in order to withstand overturning caused by high wind loads.
R. T. Patterson Company, Inc. Location: ACME Steel, Riverdale, Illinois Description:Computer aided Structural analysis and design of an industrial building extension to an existing teeming isle (approx. 420,000 cu. ft.). This included design of crane runways, ventilation considerations, and platforms. Foundations were designed by others.
H. O. H. Engineers Location: Steel Dynamics, Inc., Butler county, Indiana Description:Reinforced concrete mat foundation for an entire rolling mill, electrical motor room, coiler area and coil storage area was designed using "STAAD-III" plate elements as well as the "PCA Mat" program. The multi story massive concrete structure footing was subjected to large dynamic loads imposed by hot strip mill stands.
